A glowing complexion, come rain or shine, is my ultimate accessory. But how easy is it to achieve a glowing look every day, and especially during the colder months?
I can show you how to get the best out of your skin by trying micro needling at home. You might be asking yourself, what exactly is micro needling?
Well, read on and I’ll explain precisely what this amazing technique is and how it works.
I hope you enjoy this guide to achieving optimum results, in the comfort of your own home!
What is Micro needing
Micro needling, or skin needling, is a skin-rejuvenation procedure designed to promote the skin’s natural healing properties.
Usually a device such as a derma roller is applied to the skin’s surface to lightly puncture the skin with a series of tiny needles.
I know this sounds scary but bear with me… These tiny micro-wounds cause the skin to react by sending collagen and elastin to heal them.
Clever, isn’t it?
This treatment is known by several different names, including Collagen Induction Therapy and Percutaneous Collagen Induction (PCI).
Derma Skin Roller
This great device has 0.5mm, 1.0mm and 1.5mm needles. Use it once a month to boost your complexion. It naturally stimulates the growth of brand new collagen and elastins.
It has also been proven to reduce scarring, pore size and even stretch marks. Although it sounds hardcore, part of the reason this method is so popular is the fact that it’s so minimally invasive.
That and its track record for fantastic results! This process can easily be carried out at home, making it very easy to maintain regularly.
When coupled with serums or creams, needling can yield even better results as it helps them to further penetrate the dermis, nourishing on a deeper level.
Micro needling at home is a cost-effective and easy process. It shouldn’t take longer than 15-20 minutes to complete a home session, so it can slot easily into your regular beauty regime.
What better excuse to try micro needling at home?
Does micro needling work
The short answer is: yes!
As long as this method is carried out as directed, you can be sure of great results and next to no negative side effects.
How do I know it works? Well, I’ve been a big fan for over a year and can attest to the rejuvenating properties of needled skin.
At 32, with acne scarring left over from my teens and early 20’s, I’m now often complimented on my youthful complexion.
I have to give credit to my home kit which has completely changed the landscape of my skin, and my attitude towards skin care in general.
So, I can personally confirm that it works brilliantly and most of my female family members and girlfriends are now converts too.
Vitamin C Serum
This cruelty free Vitamin C serum contains Hyaluronic Acid which is a great ingredient for healing wounds and soothing sore skin.
Micro needling before and after results
Micro needling before and after results can vary but are usually quite remarkable! I can speak from experience when I say my skin has never been smoother and more even toned.
I feel as though it has firmed significantly over a year and the compliments I’ve enjoyed have paid for my own home kit a thousand times over!
I’ll now go into ageing feeling good about myself and my skin, which makes this treatment something of a miracle!
Mirco needing: How often do you need to do it
It is important not to go over the top with the skin roller, tempting as it may be to want results fast.
The skin needs time to heal between treatments and not giving it that down time can delay results or derail them completely.
Times between needling vary depending on needle length. For instance, a roller with needles of 0.2-0.25mm length can be used daily, while needles of 2.0-2.5mm should only be done every 8 weeks.
Shortly I will review a micro roller with a needles of 1mm, which can be used once a month. As with all treatments, be sure to take good care of your skin after each procedure.
After a session, please avoid direct sunlight, wear a good sunscreen and keep skin well moisturised.
Try not to let the skin dry out and feed it the best quality cream you can; Vitamins A, C and D are recommended for best results.
These ingredients work closely together to promote collagen synthesis.
Micro needling stretch marks
In addition to acne scarring, this method is something of a miracle cure for reducing stretch marks.
Though these battle scars are nothing to be ashamed of – most women have them– this treatment can help them to fade.
Micro needling at home, or under the care of a dermatologist, can reduce fine silvery lines and loose skin, reinstalling body confidence.
A micro needle roller can offer astonishing results over the course of just a few months.
Acne scars can seriously dent self-confidence. I should know as I’ve suffered for most of my adult life, so anything that helps them fade leaves me in awe!
Some scarring can be improved by over-the-counter lotions and potions but often these blemishes need something that goes a little deeper.
Needling is an inexpensive procedure proven to combat crater like scars, and revitalise not only the skin’s surface but wavering self-esteem.
The tiny needles comprising the roller penetrate the dermis, prompting the skin to react naturally to the minor invasion.
By needling the skin, it receives the message to start creating new collagen and elastins. This reaction causes the skin to tightens and lift, plumps and evens out skin tone.
I love this process so much that I would say my skin has improved by at least 60% over the course of just one year. Which in the grand scheme of things is no time at all!
Of course results will vary from person to person but as long as the procedure is carried out carefully, it should start to showcase improvement in next to no time.
Micro needling wrinkles
Like most women, I’ve always dreaded getting older. Not anymore!
I’m now looking at my face with a new vigour and I’m in awe of what the skin can naturally achieve with a little encouragement.
Treatment generally focuses on the upper cheeks and cheek bone regions, as well as the jaw line.
Under the eye skin is a lot more delicate and the general consensus is to approach this area with due care.
I’ve read a lot of research about using a roller for eye wrinkles and some dermatologists recommend you avoid it altogether.
However, with a shorter needled derma roller of 0.2-0.25, you can safely and effectively treat the area around the eyes, reducing crow’s feet significantly.
Be sure to pull the back the skin around the socket with your fingers, stretching it gently until taut.
Serum applied to the skin during this wrinkle battling treatment will work double-hard as needling deeply penetrates the skin, allowing it to saturate and moisturise even further.
Micro needling side effects
It would be careless not to mention the possible side effects of skin needling. This section is most important to note if you’re carrying out this procedure yourself, at home.
I’m a big fan of doing some research before trying a method out on myself, so I recommend you read all instructions properly.
So, what should you look out for? As with all minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedures, this method can cause inflammation and swelling of the skin.
Swelling shouldn’t last too long though and can be curbed with an ice pack.
Deeper treatments may result in pin prick bleeding or oozing from the pores. Since this process is superficial, side effects should be minimal though.
Keep an eye out for infection, however. And in some more severe cases you may notice pigment loss or increase.
That said, if conducted carefully, there’s no reason to be concerned.
There is little danger of micro needling going wrong or causing long term damage, which is why it’s so highly regarded.
So, now you know more about this amazing process, let me share a couple of my favourite products with you.
Micro needling at home kit
This neat little roller holds the key to your new favourite autumn accessory: glowing skin!
With needle lengths of 0.5mm, 1.0mm and 1.5mm this derma skin roller can be used on a variety of different areas on my face. I use it once a month to boost the complexion, naturally stimulating the growth of brand new collagen and elastins.
Used at home, this procedure can prove just as effective as salon treatments and yield fabulous results in just a short period.
Some people prefer to prepare with a topical numbing cream which works well and can take away the sting if you’d rather not feel it.
Apply the cream around an hour before treatment and expect it to typically last a couple of hours.
I’m a big fan of preparing myself before I do a good all over facial session. My first experience of this procedure wasn’t very successful, I don’t mind telling you. I bought an inferior roller and it failed even to penetrate the skin.
The next time I used this derma skin roller – and I was blown away! Exactly as described, it lightly pricked the skin and really felt as though it was doing the job.
Perhaps it’s just me but I could swear I saw dramatic results just a couple of sessions in!
I have a deep groove between my eyebrows that has made me self-conscious for years and after around 5 goes with my roller, it has become considerably less defined.
I am actually curing my own wrinkles! And with the correct aftercare, I feel I’m speeding up the effects even more.
This is such a fantastic little device, I highly recommend the results. And as mentioned, even my Mum has jumped on the bandwagon!
Vitamin C Serum for Face with Hyaluronic Acid
I’ve talked above about coupling this procedure with a good serum. It will enhance results and also makes the skin feel wonderful and well-maintained.
I love this Vitamin C serum as it contain Hyaluronic Acid, a great ingredient for healing wounds and soothing sore skin.
This cruelty free product guarantees better and clearer skin, and has so far more than proven itself to me.
In particular, I’ve noticed a reduction in pore size as well as less crow’s feet, which makes me very happy indeed!
The serum contains not only C but Vitamins A, D and E which feed the skin everything it needs, combating fine wrinkles, specifically around the eyes.
Alongside my trusty roller, I consider this serum a part of my fail-safe beauty arsenal.
My bathroom cabinet now boasts almost everything I need to fight visible signs of ageing.
You might be wondering how my beauty regime goes? Well, I’m more than happy to share!
I apply Vitamin C serum in the morning before I apply makeup, and last thing at night once I’ve taken off my face.
Straight after application my skin feels soothed and ultra smooth. I’m confident that this serum’s healing properties keep spots at bay, something I demand of my skin care products.
Once a month I pair this great product with my 1mm roller, taking it deep and really getting it into the fabric of the skin.
I no longer feel discomfort when I apply this procedure to myself and have got quite deft at delivering a similar service to friends and family.
By following the advice of the experts, I needle the skin as instructed, moving it first horizontally, vertically and in oblique directions, along the cheek bones and upper cheeks.
I admit I also carefully visit the delicate skin around the eye socket, but always take my time here.
As you may have gathered, I’m a massive fan of microneedling at home. This method has been around for a while now but isn’t always explained in the best way.
I hope you’ve found my review helpful and have gained all the answers you needed.
Most of all I hope you now feel confident enough to try it out yourself – and I hope you love the results, just like I do!
